Eligibility to Participate in the Michigan Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program
Over 5,000 acute care hospitals and critical access hospitals in the United States can participate in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Promoting Interoperability program. Most will be able to receive incentive payments from both the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
Hospitals eligible to participate in the Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program include:
- Acute care hospitals (including critical access hospitals and cancer hospitals) with at least 10% Medicaid patient volume
- Children’s hospitals (no Medicaid patient volume requirements)
Under the Michigan Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program, eligible hospitals (EHs) can qualify for incentive payments if they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate the Meaningful Use of a certified EHR technology (CEHRT) in the first program year, and successfully demonstrate MU in subsequent program years. Medicaid hospitals that qualify may begin receiving incentive payments in any year from federal fiscal year (FFY) 2011 to FFY 2016.
