Michigan Automated Prescription System (MAPS)

Prescription Drug Monitoring Program

A prescription monitoring program is designed to assist prescribers and dispensers in making informed decisions around patient risk when prescribing a controlled substance, schedule 2-5 drug. Tracking these highly addictive and abused drugs can help prevent duplicative prescribing and dangerous drug interactions and ultimately help reduce abuse and overdose deaths.

Electronic Health Record Integrations

MDHHS has partnered with LARA, where MAPS is administered, to encourage Medicaid providers to integrate MAPS into their electronic health record (EHR) systems and pharmacy dispensation systems. EHR integrations with MAPS meet the Specialized Registry Reporting measure for public health reporting within certain Federal programs (e.g. meaningful use, MIPS). Individual providers must have an active account within MAPS in order to meet the measure.
